CANADA
Canada is the second largest country in the world with a population of just over 30 million. Nearly 90% of Canadians live along the southern border with the USA.
The country is made up of 10 provinces and 3 northern territories.
The government is a constitutional monarchy and the national capital is Ottawa.
There are two official languages in the country, English and French.

Provincial Capital - Victoria
Largest City - Vancouver
Population - 4,050,000
BC has some of the most varied and spectacular scenery in the world. From the Rocky Mountains to forests, lakes, wilderness and a small desert to rainforests, inlets and islands. 66% of BC is covered by forest.
1.2 Alberta
Provincial Capital - Edmonton
Largest City - Calgary
Population - 3,000,000
Not long ago Alberta was a vast, sparsely inhabited wilderness. Toay it has two of the largest cities in Canada - Edmonton and Calgary. It's huge wheat farms, cattle ranches and rich deposits of minerals and fossil fuels are the basis of it's wealth.
1.3 Saskatchewan
Provincial Capital - Regina
Population - 1,050,000
Tourism is not a major industry in Saskatchewan but many people do pass through. Many people find the scenary monotonous; the south of the province is mercilessly flat, often without a tree in sight. The northern half of Saskatchewan has over 100,000 lakes and few roads.
The province is the greatest grower of wheat in North America and has one third of Canada's farmland. The province also has the richest potash deposits in the world.
1.4 Manitoba
Provincial Capital - Winnipeg
Population - 1,200,000
Manitoba is the first of the three prairie provinces as you head westward. Manufacturing is the most significant economic sector. Wheat is the major agricultural product , with various other grains and cattle following closely behind. Scattered across the province are large parks, ideal for exploring the terrain.
1.5 Ontario
Provincial Capital - Toronto
Population-12,000,000
Ontario is the centre of Canadian politics and economics, and much of the arts as well. The country's largest city, Toronto, is here, as are Niagara Falls and Ottawa, Canada's capital. These three places alone make this region the most heavily visited in the country.
Ontario is the richest province with as much manufacturing as in all the other provinces combined. Despite that, agriclture is one of the most significant economic sectors. The north has tremendous mineral and forestry resources.
1.6 Quebec
Provincial Capital - Quebec City
Population - 1,550,000
This is the country's largest province and with the vast majority of the population speaking French, visitors will soon realise that Quebec is unlike the rest of Canada and North America and that the differences go far beyond language. The unique culture is reflected in various aspects of life including architecture, music, food and religion.
1.7 Newfoundland
Provincial Capital - St John's
Population - 550,000
Two distinct geographic areas make up this singular political entity. Newfoundland, the island section of the province, and Labrador, the larger northern mainland portion.
Newfoundland has a unique character. It's a rugged weather-beaten land at the end of Canada, heavily influenced by the sea and the not-too-distant far north.
1.8 Nova Scotia
Provincial Capital - Halifax
Population - 950,000
In Nova Scotia you are never more than 56km from the sea, a feature that has greatly influenced the character of the province. The rugged coastline, with its countless bays and inlets, provides shelter for many small fishing villages.
The Bay of Fundy region is dominated by the world's highest tides.
1.9 New Brunswick
Provincial Capital - Fredericton

New Brunswick is one of Canada's three Maritime Provinces. The province's essential characteristic is that it remains largely forested.

1.12 North West Territories
Provincial Capital - Yellowknife
Population - 50,000
Canada's Northern territories make up a vast tract of land, which for the most part is a barren, treeless tundra, that's nearly always frozen. But it's not all that way, this land of the midnight sun does have mountains, forests and abundant wildlife.
1.13 Nunavut
Provincial Capital - Iqaluit
